About the Post Commander

Angelo Schmidt, U.S. Marine Corps


Angelo was born in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to Cedar Falls in 1968. Angelo is a life member of the AMVETS Post 49 and V.F.W. Post 3896 and an AMVETS Rider member and in the past served 3 years as Commander of the Cedar Falls American Legion Post. He joined the Marine Corps in 1970, served with the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1973 then served 2 years in D Troop 194th Air Cav. Recon. Platoon Iowa Army National Guard. He served as 2nd Vice Commander and most recently Provost Marshall for AMVETS Post 49.

Angelo retired from Viking Pump in 2005 and enjoys fishing and hunting plus is an active member of the Cedar Valley Walleye Club. Angelo also enjoys Italian cooking and growing his own herbs, peppers and tomatoes. Angelo and his wife Sue of 36 years both enjoy gardening.

Between Angelo and Sue’s families each branch of the service has been represented with Sue’s Great Grandfather having served in the Civil War with the Wisconsin Volunteers – Grand Army of the Republic.
