Commander Thomas P. Hagarty
Department Officers:

Born and raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Tom Hagarty has been active in the life of the community with his activities in church, veteran's, and social organizations.  Tom is also involved in city government as a eight year member of the Cedar Falls City Council.

Tom comes from a large Irish Catholic family that has seen three of their family serving in the Armed Forces.  He has been married to his wife Cathy for 37 years.

Retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 38 years of service, Tom spreads his time between family, church, community, and veteran's needs.

Tom, a veteran of the U.S.A.F, (1966 - 1970) is a member of the American Legion Post 237, in Cedar Falls, the D.A.V., in Waterloo, Iowa, as well as the Guy W. Iversen AMVET Post 49.  Tom has served for two years as 2nd Vice Cdr. and for one year as Parks Colonel.  As 2nd Vice, Tom was very instrumental in securing the support of the local business community in Post projects.

Tom is very proud of his participation in the Post 49 Honor Guard, especially participating in military rites for those veterans from the community who have died. He endeavors to make our country's flag more visible in the community, with presentation of the colors at parades and other community events, as well as flag education programs in the local schools, service organizations, and retirement homes.
